Atlanta and Oakland – Elihu Harris, famed Mayor of Oakland from 1991 to 1999, and member of the California Assembly from 1978 to 1990, was the featured guest on on Live, and to address the specific question of what to do with the Oakland Athletics’ effort to purchase Oakland Coliseum land and demolish the current stadium, in light of the baseball organization’s work to secure the permits and funding to build a new ballpark at Howard Terminal, near Jack London Square.

What does Mayor Harris think? Here are a few highlights from our half-hour conversation held Monday night, starting at 8:30 PM PST / 11:30 PM EST, and that you can listen to with a click on the video above.

“Well, first, I take issue with them wanting to leave the current site (for Howard Terminal)”, Harris said. “The parking, transportation, infrastructure, all are there, at the Coliseum. I do think that it (the new ballpark) aught to be built at The Coliseum.”

“The A’s realize the City (of Oakland)’s in bad spot: the sports teams have left us: the Warriors and the Raiders, and now the A’s are the only game in town,” Elihu Harris said that the organization is trying to get the best of the City when its vulnerable.

The original intent of the Mayor and The Oakland City Council was to have the A’s pick either Howard Terminal or The Coliseum for the new ballpark site. But, the organization elected to chose both, throwing the City of Oakland into a state of disbelief that the baseball organization would elect to cause a bit of a civic crisis. A’s fans in Oakland are more opposed to the dual site strategy that A’s fans who live outside of Oakland.

Stay tuned.

Note from Oakland Now Technical: this video-blog post shows the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Media mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Media’s new and innovative approach to the production of media. The uploaded video is from a ger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland Now site and -owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of , interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
