ONN – Salesforce Transit Center María Ayerdi-Kaplan’s Creation Reopens

Media ger Richard Haick takes us on a tour of the newly reopened Salesforce Transit Center.

The new regional transportation network hub building that was the vision of San Francisco Deputy Mayor Maria Ayerdi Kaplan was replacing the earthquake-damaged version of three decades ago. But, it had a problem with two cracked steel beams. The center was closed and the problem solved and fixed.

As the video shows, while Salesforce Transit Center is open, there’s not full bus service. The San Francisco TransBay Joint Powers Authority reported this on its website:

Muni and Golden Gate Transit will provide bus service from the street level bus plaza in early July. AC Transit’s 26 Transbay bus lines, Greyhound and Westcat Lynx anticipate service from the bus deck to resume in late summer 2019 following operator training and rider notice. Salesforce Park, the Grand Hall, Food Trucks and public art installations will be open and available on July 1st. The transit center was temporarily closed last September as a precaution after fissures were found in two beams on the third level Bus Deck at Fremont Street. Since then, the TJPA has determined the cause of the fissures, repaired and reinforced the area, conducted an exhaustive review of the facility, completed a facility-wide fire and life safety reinspection program with city and state oversight, and recommissioned the entire facility. In October 2018, San Francisco Mayor London Breed and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf also asked the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to provideindependent oversight and a review of the repairs, reinforcement and the structural steel at the transit center. After this eight month independent peer review, the MTC’s panel concluded that the issue was localized to the Fremont Street locationand the transit center may now reopen to the public.

Now the Salesforce Transit Center is open, and just in time for the rest of the 2019 Summer.

Stay tuned.

Oakland Now Note: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest version of an experimental Media mobile media video-blogging system network. This is a major part of our new approach to the production of media. The uploaded video is from a ger with the on Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland Now site and -owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of , interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem far less, though by no means solved. Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and also seek interested content and media technology partners.
