OUSD Reopening Phase

Oakland Unified School District Invites Media To See Students Returning To Campus

On First Day of In-Person Instruction in the 20-21 School Year, the Media is Invited to East Oakland School to See Students Returning to Campus

Oakland — Tuesday, March 30 is the first day of in-person instruction for thousands of pre-school, elementary and primary school students across Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). Families will be dropping children off at schools and helping them pass through the District’s new COVID health check system to enter campus. After a year with campuses closed to most students, Tuesday is sure to be a time of anxious excitement among students, staff and families.

In the interest of keeping the day as manageable and stress-free as possible for all OUSD school communities, media is invited to visit a single OUSD school, Madison Park Academy Primary School, to see students and families arrive for school and the process through which students are checked in. Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell and Chief Academic Officer, Sondra Aguilera will visit this school to greet families and see the process in action. If media is interested in covering the first day of in-person instruction in Oakland, please visit only this school.

Media is not being allowed on campus on the first day, but on campus pool photos from a separate school will be made available through the local wire service.

WHAT: Arrivals for First Day of In-Person Instruction in OUSD Schools
WHEN: Noon, Tuesday, March 30
WHERE: Madison Park Academy Primary School, 470 El Paseo Drive (On-campus parking is NOT available)
