ONN – City Of Oakland To Pay $1.4M To Mom of Homeless Man Killed By Police In Video

This video was posted to the Freedom Media Canada channel. Here’s the text:

Police responded to reports of Joshua Pawlik, 31 on March 11, 2018, holding a gun as he lay unconscious on the ground between two houses in West Oakland. Officers said they tried to wake him up, shouting at him to take his hands off the gun and firing after he failed to comply.

The city of Oakland agreed to pay $1.4 million to the mother of a homeless man killed by police officers in March 2018.

The Oakland City Council’s vote on April 23 to approve the settlement comes more than two years after Oakland police shot Joshua Pawlik, who they found sleeping with a gun in his hand. The agreement settles a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his mother, Kelly Pawlik.

The Oakland Police Commission called for the firing of the five officers involved in the shooting. The commission also voted to oust former Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick over her handling of the incident this decision was supported by Mayor Libby Schaaf.

The police chief said she intended to sue the city for her firing.

The shooting was captured on a body-worn camera and shows the man did not pose any threat that would justify the shooting and killing of Pawlik

“The video also confirms that at no time did Mr. Pawlik raise the handgun towards the officers or otherwise in a threatening manner towards Officers. Mr. Pawlik attempted to raise his head and sit up by using his right elbow for leverage,” police commissioners wrote in their 2019 report.

Stay tuned.

Note from Zennie62Media and Oakland Now: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a ger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of , interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
