ONN – George Young has a radio show in Columbia, MO called “The Closers”. He invited me on to talk about the Oakland Raiders stadium issue, including the Las Vegas Relocation. This is a simulcast. His show is on 1400 KFRU http://www.kfru.com
On the podcast, George asked for an overview on the Raiders Las Vegas situation. Given that Mr. Young’s from Missouri, he had a keen interest in how the $750 million subsidy from Clark County came to be. It was fun explaining it and I wish I had more time on his show. That said, the basic reason is that Las Vegas Sands Founder and Chairman Sheldon Adelson wanted that level of subsidy. It was all part of his desire to reduce the level of public funding used by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority – especially since it competes with his Sands Expo Convention Center.
(As an addendum, I mispoke when I said that Nevada Legislature voted the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Act into law in 2017; it was October 16, 2016.)
