Nipsey Hussle, Oakland, And Step Curry – Nipsey Hussle RIP

Rapper Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in Los Angeles on Sunday, causing an outpouring of content on his image and music, words, and deeds. Some of them focus on Oakland, like the time Nipsey Hussle visited our city after releasing his latest project “Crenshaw” as he performed at the New Parish in 2013.

Over at KQED, Pendarvis Harshaw said it best: “His MO was that of a reformed gangbanger who used his musical talents to speak his mind. He’d talk about business acumen and his perspective on personal relationships. He rapped candidly about his views on politics, like with his feature on the YG song “FDT.” He interspersed all of that with references to luxury cars, marijuana, alcohol and a whole lot of cussing. He offered a glimpse of the mindset of a young man in urban America simply chasing that dream. And he put it all into words that I could directly apply to my life.”

But 2013 was far from the only time Nipsey Hussle was in Oakland – he was a huge Golden State Warriors Fan, and a regular attendee at the games. Here’s Nipsey with Step Curry in this video on hip hop and life:

In that talk, Hussle said something that is a key to business in digital media and entertainment “The metric is really inspiration we got untapped value above us right when you think about endorsements you can do outside of the court there opens up so many doors and opportunities to turn your other passions into real life business real life opportunities.”

Stay tuned.
