The channel “waajidsvideo” on YouTube posted this series of dashcam videos capturing areas in Oakland where, in the vlogger’s view, the homeless problem was more acute than in 2020. I “liked” this vlog because it underscores the real problem of in-your-face extreme poverty, deep poverty, abject poverty, absolute poverty, that the Oakland City Council has done nothing to address.
The City of Oakland’s reaction has been to act within the market: built tough sheds, remove homeless encampments, and create affordable units here and there. But the real, overall answer of using tax increment financing to inject real dollars into financial assistance for people and for development of extremely affordable housing has not been done. And now we are a year into The Pandemic without a real, meaningful, Oakland policy response.
Moreover, it’s illogical to have this environment and not expect increases in gun use.
The Trash &; Homelessness continue to grow in 2021 in Oakland, Ca. This video shows only some of the areas in Oakland that has a Street Trash & Homelessness problem. There are many many more areas with this problem in Oakland. Hopefully this video will motivate the viewers to try to help solve the trash on the street & homelessness problem.
