More New BART Cars Spotted At West Oakland BART

As BART, The San Francisco – Oakland – Bay Area Rapid Transit System, slowly rolls out its brand new, 21st Century-styled, state-of-the-art cars that some have nicknamed “The Whale”, they are starting to pop up during the normal flow of daily train traffic.

Take this YouTube video by Kok Lun Mak:

In it, he reports that “The new Fleet Of Future Red Line Richmond approaching platform 2 at west Oakland station.” According to BART’s website, there have been 84 cars received, 75 certified, and 48 in service.

BART reports this:

As of May 1, 2019, BART has 5 new trains in service—one on each of BART’s 5 lines. By February 2020, BART anticipates having enough new cars to lengthen nearly all peak period Transbay trains to 10 cars and to remove the least reliable legacy cars from service. The new cars will also allow for more trains to be added to the Green and Orange lines to accommodate the opening of the Berryessa station.

Stay tuned.
