“The Oakland A’s: Celebrating 50 Years” is a brand new exhibit at the The Oakland History Room in the Oakland Public Library! The Oakland Public Library has officially joined the race for October by mounting this new program on the Oakland A’s!

“The Oakland A’s: Celebrating 50 Years” display, which features photos, news articles, souvenir books and memorabilia, will run at the library from August 1 to November 3, 2018. The free exhibit is located in the Oakland History Room on the second floor of the Main Library (125 14th St. Oakland, CA 94612).

“Since their earliest days here, the A’s have endeared themselves to fans by offering up a unique brand of play, style, show business and team management,” said Oakland History Room Librarian Dorothy Lazard. “Our exhibit is just one small way to show our enduring love for the team and respect for its positive impact on Oakland.”

All items in the exhibit are from the Oakland History Room archives and Oakland Public Library staff. The display covers topics like: the 1989 World Series between the Giants and A’s interrupted by the Loma Prieta earthquake; the unique shenanigans and showmanship of the ‘70’s; current general manager Billy Beane’s player personnel strategy that was the subject of the book and movie, Moneyball; and much more.

As a part of the organization’s Home Run Readers program, the Oakland A’s donated ticket vouchers for all Oakland Public Library patrons that signed up for the Child, Teen and/or Adult Summer Programs.

Since June 16 2018, the A’s have the best record in Major League Baseball at 28-10 (.737); they currently sit two games out of a playoff spot and five games behind the American League West leader and defending World Series champion Houston Astros.
