We ride BART very often and are continuously struck by how dirty it is, how filthy its stations are, and by how mentally unstable so many of its riders and station denizens seem to be. Not long ago we had a visitor from Arkansas ride with us from the East Bay to San Francisco and she really was taken aback by what most of us here consider normal BART behavior. Nia Wilson’s death was horrible and deplorable, but given all the above, as well as the absolute rarity of BART police, not entirely unexpected.
