Darren Rovell Just Wrong On Impact Of Paying College Athletes On NCAA

ONN – Darren Rovell Just Wrong On Impact Of Paying College Athletes On NCAA

The NCAA will not be destroyed contrary to Darren Rovell’s tweet. But what will be terminated is the current slave system that athletes play under.

Darren Rovell, whom I’ve known since 2005, issued a tweet from his account (it seems to have been removed) that stated, among other things, that the NCAA would end as an organization. If the NCAA and its member schools can’t bring itself to fairly compensate the players that are at the core of why it exists, then perhaps that should happen. But, like most organizations of the size and age of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, it will simply adjust to the times.

Overall, we’re paying people less than we did 30 years ago, adjusted for inflation. We have off-shored many jobs that provide services today. A person who comes out of school finds it harder to land a well-paying job than ever before. If a college student can make money off of their physical talents, rather than just the college, why not let them?

Darren Rovell should know that the idea that a scholarship is payment is baseless: many students land scholarships, but then get paid internships with companies in their field while in college. So, there’s no logical reason an NCAA athlete shouldn’t be able to do that – now, in California, they can.

The NCAA already pimps out the players as the face of the school. The NCAA already sets up the player as an entertainer. To not pay them, to insist on a structure that uses them, is slavery. That must stop.

Stay tuned.

Oakland Now Note: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest version of an experimental Media mobile media video-blogging system network. This is a major part of our new approach to the production of media. The uploaded video is from a ger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland Now site and -owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of , interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and also seek interested content and media technology partners.
