CULVER CITY, CA – Blackbird House, the first-ever private global coworking space designed by and for women of color, along with welcoming allies, celebrated its grand opening in Culver City, California, last Saturday, October 26th, with a star-studded event full of women’s empowerment.
Blackbird House was filled with more than 500 attendees, including influencers and celebrity guests Don Cheadle, Vanessa A. Williams, Roland Martin, and Dawn-Lyen Gardner – all eager to experience this new paradigm in coworking.
“If a physical space could be an oasis for the creative soul, then Blackbird House would be it. Head nod to this first global coworking community smartly centering women of color and our allies,” noted activist and actor, Dawn-Lyen Gardner (“Queen Sugar”, OWN Network).
Founder, Bridgid Coulter, an actress and accomplished interior designer, designed Blackbird House to foster a collective of women of color and their allies, with similar values rooted in diversity and inclusion. Coulter mentioned in her opening remarks to guests, “My idea was to build a collective from the community up, to reflect the warmth and energy of the amazing entrepreneurs, creatives, mentors, strivers, community advocates, social justice warriors, environmental champions and healers that we aim to serve. With Blackbird House, we’re creating a membership network of physical workspaces where we can be aligned in work, wellness and community”.
The grand opening celebration allowed guests to view the space and experience a snapshot of Blackbird’s membership offerings, all centered around the company’s three life-essential pillars: Productivity, Wellness and Community, including: Kombucha sampling with partner Health-Aid Kombucha, cocktails provided by Usual Wines and AMASS Vodka and Gin, personalized haiku stations with Ars Poetica, massages by Tai & Nefertiti, aura readings with Sarah Wong, documentary project recordings in Blackbird’s Flyness podcast studio, and more.
Guests also enjoyed live music by Kubwa featuring Lesa
Terry and a DJ Smiles Davis spinning vinyl, food provided by Blackbird House Signature Chefs – Chef Leo of A Goodloe Affair and Chef Q of Chefism, and an intimate conversation about “women of color, the concept of value & wealth strategies in the evolving landscape,” with Lisa Coca, enterprise southwest advisor and investor of Trinity Ventures and Noramay Cadena, managing partner at MiLA Capital.
Blackbird House officially opened its Culver City location in September, with plans to strategically expand to other US cities and international destinations such as London, Paris, Johannesburg, and Accra, to name a few.
