Cat Brooks Endorses Mia Bonta Over Janani Ramachandran For CA 18th Assembly District Race

This may be a bit of a shocker considering how some have tried to paint Janani Ramachandran via Mia Bonta, but it also sends the signal that Mia Bonta’s not some republican conservative. Here’s the press release that came my way.

Today Oakland activist Cat Brooks endorsed Mia Bonta in the special election to represent California’s 18th Assembly District, citing Mia’s activist roots and urging voters to return their ballots before next Tuesday, August 31st.

“Raised by activists, Mia Bonta is a fighter who will be the progressive champion our Oakland community needs in the California Assembly,” Cat Brooks said. “As a Black Latina, Mia knows what it means to stand up against discrimination and injustice. Mia will be our community’s voice and fight for affordable housing, funding for our public schools, criminal justice reform and police accountability, and environmental justice here in Oakland. I’m proud to endorse Mia’s campaign and I encourage you to join me in voting Mia Bonta for Assembly by August 31st!”

“Cat Brooks is truly a force here in Oakland and she understands the soul of this city,” Mia Bonta said. “I’m proud to have Cat’s support in this race and share her vision for a better Oakland, a better East Bay, and a better California that is more affordable, inclusive, engaged, and inviting. We have a lot of hard work ahead but I’m confident that we can make meaningful change in the lives of our community members. But that starts with voting, so I urge folks to return their ballot by August 31st.”

Mia Bonta is also endorsed by U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber, Attorney General Rob Bonta, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, the California Democratic Party, the Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus, the California Latino Legislative Caucus, the California Legislative Black Caucus, Equality California, NARAL Pro-Choice California, Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte, the California League of Conservation Voters, Black Women Organized for Political Action, and over a dozen labor organizations.
