ONN – Bust Of Frank H. Ogawa Restored At Oakland City Hall Plaza: Tribute To Oakland’s Late Councilmember

From a post on Oaklander Phil Tagami’s Facebook Page comes this about the late Oakland Councilmember Frank H. Ogawa. The bust of the longest-serving Oakland elected official – 28 years – received a much-needed restoration. Over the years, as we moved from the year Frank passed (1994), there was less appreciation for the man.

After Oscar Grant was killed by BART Police at Fruitvale BART Station on New Year’s Day Morning 2009, and then during “Occupy Oakland” in 2011, there were calls to rename Oakland City Hall Plaza after Oscar Grant. The idea was that Frank H. Ogawa was something other than the civil rights leader he was.

Ogawa was Republican in name only. Moreover, I personally knew Councilmember Ogawa from my time as Intern to the Oakland Redevelopment Agency from 1987 to 1990. I think Frank would have wanted his name to give way to Oscar Grant’s, but he’s not alive to make the call. Frank’s many friends and family would like for his name to remain.

Stay tuned.

Note from Media and Oakland Now: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a ger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland Now site and -created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of , interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the and within seconds and not hours. Now, is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
