Hi I’m city manager John Russo for the City of Irvine and I’d like to talk to you now about COVID-19 and the impacts it is having on our city and our services.
I realized that just like me all of you are concerned about the safety and well-being of your family and it’s important that we all work together to fight the spread of this disease and that is why city staff has taken the following precautions to protect all of us City Hall for the time being is closed to the public if you need to do business with the city please visit our website and there you will find a great deal of information that will help you access essential city services for the time being.
City council meetings and Orange County Board of directors meetings are closed to the public, however we still encourage and promote and want public engagement. You can watch the meetings live on ICTV or stream them live via the city’s website but you can also provide comments via mail email or by using the city’s a comment feature all city park facilities amenities events sports leagues and services are closed or postponed until further notice.
Now, in the meantime, we’ll still have at least one staff member at each of our vines parks just to keep an eye on how people use the parks and to address any safety concerns now please note while the activities are all postponed or canceled the parks are still open for passive activities like walking or jogging or biking but everyone should maintain a safe six feet of distance from one another while doing those activities.
Now, I’m sorry to tell you that we have received numerous reports of folks not adhering to the proper social distance protocol and your cooperation is vital to our efforts in fighting the spread of this virus, and keeping the parks open and safe for everybody.
All three of our Irvine senior centers and the sweet shade ability Center are closed until further notice, and unfortunately that means events activities and classes are also closed or postponed because of a significant decrease in ridership, and in accordance with Governor Newsom’s orders.
Our ice shuttle service has been canceled until further notice the Irvine animal care center is closed to the public adoptions are suspended until further notice but don’t worry about the animals we still have plenty of staff on site to make sure they’re cared for.
The great park certified farmers market will stay open in accordance with the governor’s order and have moved it to a drive-through service entrance to the market will be along great Park Boulevard and Sand Canyon Avenue. And vendors will be spaced far enough apart to maintain safe social distancing. Please don’t walk to the farmers market and when you go there. Do not get out of your car.
Additionally some important city functions like building inspections street and landscape maintenance, and of course police services, will remain in operation with the city taking these actions to help fight COVID-19.
We are also asking you to do your part for your sake the sake of your family the Irvine community and society at large please follow the common guidance that you’ve heard so many times now from health professionals if you don’t need to leave your home, please stay home. And if you do need to leave take precautions to protect yourself your family and the people that you are around, as we’ve all heard so many times, regularly wash your hands use hand sanitizers, clean surface areas of your home or workplace, and practice social distancing for real.
Practice social distancing. It matters and it could save somebody’s life, and please, if you become sick this is no time to be a tough guy or a hero. Stay home – that’s the right thing to do.
