ONN – Bill Musgrave Welcome To Cal Football And Bring The Chip Kelly – Tony Franklin Offense With You
This Cal Berkeley Grad (Master Of City Planning 1987, Cal Alumni Board 1998-2003) is really happy that former Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave is coming to California Football in the same capacity. And for one reason: in 2015, during the start of his time with the Raiders, Musgrave was experimenting with a hybrid of the Chip Kelly Offense he learned when he was at the Philadelphia Eagles.
That year, I scored a press credential to the Arizona Cardinals vs. Oakland Raiders Preseason Game just to see how Musgrave pulled off such an offensive design. This is what I said, then:
In fact, I did see elements of not just Chip Kelly’s approach, but then Cal OC Tony Franklin, as well. Tony’s signature design was a play set featuring the running back lined up to the strongside, or three receiver side, but behind the offensive tackle, then moving to the weakside after the snap of the ball. The quarterback, in that case, Derek Carr, would fake to the back, then throw a short flat pass to the third slot receiver. I also captured that approach in this vlog from Cal’s first training camp under Sonny Dykes:
if Musgrave is able to revive this approach, Cal Football could see its offense return the the standard of performance established by Tony Franklin.
Note from Oakland News Now Technical: this video-blog post shows the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.Zennie62Media, Inc with CEO Zenophon Abraham.
