2019 Oakland Raiders Defense Better Against The Run Over 2018. Here’s Why

ONN – 2019 Oakland Raiders Defense Better Against The Run Over 2018. Here’s Why

Vontaze Burfict Oakland Raiders LB helps the Silver and Black, but the run defense is improved for another reason.

The 2018 Oakland Raiders Defense was terrible against the run. It gave up 4.7 yards per run attempt. Why? One big reason was the defensive alignment. It featured one or both defensive ends standing up. A method popularized by the Seattle Seahawks. But asking the defensive ends to stand up takes away leverage against the run.

In 2019, the Oakland Raiders Defense is better. Over two games the Defense is giving up just 2.8 yards per carry. It’s not that the Kansas City Chiefs were successful passing on their way to a 28 to 10 win, but that it was through the air that they could win. LeSean McCoy carried 11 times for just 23 yards and a 2.1 yard per carry average. The Raiders Run Defense was maintaining ground control. The reason?

The defensive ends aren’t standing. The Oakland Raiders have gone to a more traditional and effective stance for the defensive line. And as you can see it’s paying off big so far.

The question is can the Oakland Raiders sustain that success against the Minnesota Vikings. I think they can but it’s going to be tough. In my next video we will review why.

Stay tuned.

Oakland News Now Note: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest version of an experimental Zennie62Media mobile media video-blogging system network. This is a major part of our new approach to the production of news media. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – like this “2019 Oakland Raiders Defense Better Against The Run Over 2018. Here’s Why” vlog. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and also seek interested content and media technology partners.
