As our city welcomes a new and renewed set of elected leaders into office, inauguration week presents a unique moment for Oaklanders to turn toward one another to show our city’s values and celebrate our secret sauce. In addition to an Inaugural Gala to raise critical funds for our signature initiatives The Oakland Promise and Keep Oakland Housed, our vision for this week is to hold events that are inclusive, artistic and reflect the values, ideas, and cultures we all cherish.
Please join us in celebrating the 2019 Oakland Inaugurations. While the traditional Oath of Office Ceremony is this Monday at 11am Oakland City Hall, seating is extremely limited and only on a first-come basis. You can watch it live on KTOP or stream from www.oaklandca.gov . I’d encourage you instead to celebrate Inauguration Oakland-style – with dancing, inspirational good causes and our home-grown artistic talent!
First, please join me on Friday, January 11th for our Inaugural Gala at the historic Fox Theater and adjacent Party Tent! The Gala includes a Dinner & Program to benefit The Oakland Promise, as well as a Dance Party with Live Performances to benefit Keep Oakland Housed.
I particularly encourage you to purchase either a VIP Dance Party Ticket for $150, which includes access to two VIP-only Lounges, Gourmet Bites and all-night Open Bar, or a General Admission Dance Party Ticket for $40, with cash bar and dessert bar only, but all the same amazing entertainment and Oakland vibe! Confirmed entertainers who will spin or perform include Fantastic Negrito, Too $hort, MC Hammer, Dwayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Tone! and MORE!
The Dance Party with Live Performances, starts at 7:30pm in the Party Tent adjacent to the Fox, and expands into the Fox Theater starting at 9pm and goes until Midnight! To buy a ticket, with ALL proceeds benefiting Keep Oakland Housed, go to https://m.ticketmaster.com/event/1C00559BA99A318B! I’ll be welcoming guests from the Fox stage, along with my fellow elected officials around 9:30pm.
Then on Saturday, January 12th from 1-5pm, we’ll Celebrate Oakland Arts — A free, fun-filled community event for the entire family at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts, 1428 Alice Street at 14th. Consider it my gift to you, Oakland, with live performances on two outdoor and one indoor stage, Interactive Family Fun, and Oakland Grown food truck fare and libations for sale. I’ll be parading in with Samba Funk and some of our other newly elected officials and their families, and give brief remarks on the outdoor stage around 2:15pm and from the indoor stage around 3:15pm.
Details on all these events are at www.celebrateoakland.com !! I can’t wait to celebrate Oakland with you!
With Oakland-love and gratitude,
Libby Schaaf is the 50th Mayor of Oakland
