Harlan Ellison, one of the most famous science fiction writers of our time, died today at the age of 84. Star Trek fans will remember Ellison for the best episode ever: “City On The Edge Of Forever.” To no surprise, the name “Harlan Ellison” has been in so many tweets, it’s a world-wide trend on Twitter. Among the 27,000 tweets is this one from San Diego Comic Con, and ahead of San Diego Comic Con 2018, July 19 – 22:

“Calling Harlan Ellison a titan of SciFi doesn’t seem to do him justice. His work on comics, film, & novels, including Twilight Zone, Star Trek and Babylon 5, an architect of our imaginations. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends & family, he will be sorely missed.”

Parhta Mittra posted this tweeted in response:

“Let’s not forget the Outer Limits, Demon With a Glass Hand and Soldier (arguably the basis of Terminator) were some of the best television science fiction ever.”

Kenneth Jimenez‏ added this tweet about Harlan Ellison:

A giant, a genius, a cantankerous troublemaker & magnificent wit. He is easily in the constellation of the best genre writers like Shelly, Wells, Verne, Lovecraft, Tolkien, Bradbury, Asimov, Clarke, Bester, Heinlein, Dick, Le Guin, Butler, Herbert, Straczynski, King & Martin! RIP

Stay tuned.

And if you’ve not seen the 1967 Star Trek episode “City On The Edge Of Forever”, you simply must. It starred William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, and the rest of the crew of The Enterprise, and Joan Collins. Collins played Edith Keeler, who’s very life path dictated whether the World would remain free, or fall under the control of Nazi Germany. Here’s a video clip:
